Label Your Ingredients to Prevent the Risk of Allergic Reactions

Product Ingredient LabelIngredient Labels Can Raise Allergen Risk Awareness

If companies want to ensure their customers do not suffer an allergic reaction while using their products, they need to utilize ingredient labels to raise awareness of the risk among their buyers. Achoo Allergy reported that more than 50 million Americans suffer from allergies, while approximately 55 percent of all U.S. citizens test positive for one or more allergens.

Fifty-five percent of U.S. citizens is a substantial number of prospective customers, and companies looking to stay on their customers’ good side need to make any allergens used in products apparent to customers. Product labels are the perfect place to start, as people will be able to moderate their usage of goods that contain allergens if they are aware of the risk.

Designing the Right Product Label

Product labels need to make allergen risks apparent from the outset. Before people even purchase an item, the sticker should inform them of any potential allergen dangers. This may be easier said then done, simply because there are just so many allergens located in household products – they aren’t limited to food.

Sylvane noted one of the most common allergens in households is formaldehyde and volatile organic compounds. This allergen is typically found in adhesives, air fresheners, floor polishes, glue, carpet backing, dyes, liquid cleaners, markers, paint and toilet cleaners.

“While very high levels of exposure to formaldehyde cause physical reactions in everyone, some people have allergic reactions to even small exposures,” the news source explained. “Symptoms include: burning of the eyes and throat, rashes on skin, tightness of chest, fatigue, headaches.”

Of course, food can also contain allergens that should be noted on product labels, but it’s important for manufacturers to note that there are a broad number of allergens that can affect customers.

Warning Labels are Necessary for Allergic Reaction Prevention

Businesses can’t control how people use their products, but the right label can help to promote allergic reaction prevention. If labels clearly state that products contain allergens and warn people not to use these items if they suffer from allergens, then companies can rest assured knowing they did what they could to preserve the health of their customers.

If companies produce an item or good that may trigger an allergic reaction, it’s in their best interest to make this risk apparent to customers. This way, the can avoid any negative experiences that people may have with specific products.

How to Create Labels for Heart Healthy Natural Products

Create Labels for Heart Health this February

February is the perfect time to create labels for heart health from Lightning Labels

February is the perfect time to February is the perfect time to create labels for heart health.

February is American Heart Month, so it’s an ideal time to create labels for heart health. For many products, wellness is a great selling point. From healthy food products to nutritional supplements, there are many items that can be revamped to demonstrate health benefits. Make custom nutraceutical labels and stickers that demonstrate how the product can support a heart healthy lifestyle. According to the American Heart Association, certain choices support cardiovascular health more than others. Being fit and active keeps the body and heart in good shape. With the addition of a nutritional diet, individuals are potentially on the road to a longer life. By combining activity with balanced nutrition, consumers can reduce the risk of heart disease.

Heart Healthy Natural Product Labels Raise Awareness About Cardiovascular Disease

Using heart healthy natural product labels can grow nutraceutical sales. The American Heart Association says that adding certain supplements to a nutrient-rich diet can be beneficial. Labeling supplements that could support heart health can help brands increase awareness. February is a good time to make some changes to labeling strategies to show your brand’s support for health awareness. Using red in labels can help grab the attention of consumers who are keeping cardiovascular health in mind as they shop. Your brand can also design its own heart healthy logo to bring attention to the best choices. Green is also a good choice to call attention to naturally derived products, since it’s an earth tone.

Be Helpful When Labeling Heart Healthy Products

Sharing useful information is a good rule of thumb for labeling heart healthy products. Make nutraceutical labels that guide consumers toward the right choices. Include some helpful hints on labels that can assist individuals in their initiatives to achieve better health. While food products are a good place to put recipes and meal preparation ideas, nutraceutical labels are a better place for lifestyle tips. In addition to using these products to better manage cholesterol and other issues related to heart health, it’s a good idea to give some ideas for how to be more active. For those just starting out, walking is a good bet. Encouraging consumers to take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator could cause a significant impact in their daily routines. When you provide customers with advice they can really use, the result could be an increase in brand awareness and consumer trust.

Labeling Bath and Body Products for Valentine’s Day

Grow Sales by Labeling Bath and Body Products for Valentine’s Day

bath and body product labels from Lightning Labels

Labeling bath and body products for Valentine’s Day could increase sales.

Labeling bath and body products for Valentine’s Day can help increase brand presence. While many consumers rush straight to the candy aisle in early February, there are many other gifts that are appropriate for this season. Put some effort into designing bath and body product labels for Valentine’s Day and shoppers will be more likely to consider these products for presents. This holiday has become a major gift-giving holiday, according to the National Retail Federation, so you can encourage consumers to get more creative with their purchases. In 2013, half of consumers shopping for the holiday spent roughly $1.6 billion on candy. It’s time for shoppers to get more creative with their presents. In addition, the choice of sweets may not work very well for loved ones who are dieting as a result of a New Year’s resolution.

Make Lotion Labels for Valentine’s Gifts

Creating lotion labels for Valentine’s gifts encourages shoppers to buy your brand. Whether you just want your loved ones to relish in the luxurious fragrance of a product, or you’re providing the gift of comfort for dry and chapped skin, lotion is an under-appreciated Valentine’s Day gift. Especially during the coldest months, the gift of soothing body products can be a great one. Don’t neglect lotions and other body products during marketing campaigns for February. Instead of flowers, provide an incentive for shoppers to buy floral-scented lotions instead. Flesh out labels with floral imagery that reflects the scent of the product. Another option is to simply alter the colors of the label to be more in line with Valentine’s Day. Make reds, pinks and purples the dominant motif.

Create Valentine’s Product Labeling for Various Items

Putting some extra effort into Valentine’s product labeling could be worth your while. Dress up lotions and other goods with heart-shaped imagery to promote them for the holiday. Some creative use of text can function in a similar way. You can make your product label into a valentine. Businesses that make beverages should also take the opportunity to grow sales. Wine is a big part of the Valentine’s Day experience and shouldn’t be neglected. For couples having a candle-lit dinner at home, this is a common beverage choice. Of course, different people have varying tastes, so designing beer, liquor and non-alcoholic sparkling ciders for the romantically inclined could also be beneficial. Even goods that may seem uncommon for Valentine’s Day will be gift-worthy if they are packaged with love.

Going Gluten Free and Getting Noticed: Guidance for Custom Food Labels

Custom Food Labels for Gluten-Free Products Have New Rules to Follow

gluten-free food product labels

Wheat is among the ingredients that cannot be featured on gluten-free food product labels.

Many businesses that sell gluten-free products may want to reconsider the information they place on custom food labels. Earlier this month, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration released new guidelines outlining what products can be labeled gluten-free. Manufacturers must now bring their product packaging into compliance with the final rule by Aug. 5, 2014, one year after it was published.

According to the FDA, for items to be labeled “gluten-free,” “free of gluten,” “without gluten,” “no gluten” or with any similar message, they must not contain any type of wheat, rye, barley or crossbreeds of these grains. Products also cannot contain any ingredients derived from these grains that haven’t been processed to remove gluten components. Additionally, products must contain less than 20 gluten parts per million.

Food Label Printing Facilitates Compliance

Whether your products already meet the FDA’s guidelines or need to be tweaked slightly, food label printing can help you design product packaging that is equally attractive as it is informative. Only about 5 percent of foods labeled gluten-free currently on the market contain 20 or more parts per million of gluten, according to the FDA. If your products make the cut, there’s no reason not to flaunt it!

In fact, revamping your product labels now may give you a competitive advantage over other brands. With about 3 million people in the United States reportedly having celiac disease, the amount of gluten found in food products across the country is of interest to many. The FDA’s announcement may have led a large number of shoppers to reconsider the foods they’re consuming and question whether labels are truthful.

Even though the rules don’t come into effect for about one year, you can inform consumers your products are already compliant by stating so on your product labels. This will lead shoppers to view your brand as trustworthy and reliable.

Bath & Body Product Labels – Attractive Mother’s Day Products

Bath and Body Product Labels Can Jazz Up Gift Items for Mother’s Day

Bath and body product label tips for Mother's Day

Bath and Body Product Labels Can Jazz up Gift Items for Mother’s Day

One of the best ways to boost product awareness and sales is by redesigning products to effectively attract consumers. Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and shoppers will soon start perusing store aisles and websites to find the perfect gift for Mom, Grandma and other important mothers in their lives. You can make sure your goods are ready for the occasion with the right bath and body product labels.

Perhaps you haven’t considered revamping your product labels for Mother’s Day because you’re worried about the time and money necessary for the process. However, if you’re working with the right bath and body label printing service, you’ll find designing and ordering labels isn’t just a walk in the park, it’s speedy and affordable as well.

Still not convinced a Mother’s Day makeover is the right move for your product packaging? Consider this: in 2012, Nearly 87 percent of the U.S. celebrated Mother’s Day, and consumers spent a total of $18.6 million on gifts with an average of $152.52 per gift, according to FreeShipping.com. By not investing in the marketing opportunity using labels for bath and body care this season, you may miss out on incredible revenue this Mother’s Day.

Here are a few other fun facts about the holiday the source compiled:

  • On average, men spend nearly $190 on Mother’s Day gifts, while women spend about $117.

  • Young professionals aged 25 to 34 are likely to spend the most on Mom, and people over the age of 65 tend to spend the least.

  • While about 65 percent of consumers plan to buy Mom a gift, 22 percent plan to treat their wife and nearly 11 percent will give a gift to their daughter.

2 Ideas for Attractive Labels for Bath and Body Care This Mother’s Day

Because bath and body products can make perfect Mother’s Day presents, labels for bath and body care need to let shoppers know a brand offers high-quality, gift-ready items. Here are two ways to design custom labels that will convey the right message this Mother’s Day:

1. Design Product Labels With Mom in Mind
Consider boosting your seasonal marketing efforts by designing stickers and labels that focus on Mother’s Day. You won’t even have to veer too far away from your current packaging designs – just add or alter images or copy that acknowledges Mother’s Day and explain how your product will be a great addition to Moms’ bath or body care routine.

However, if you do want to revamp your product’s image completely, bath and body label printing can help you choose the perfect custom packaging design.

2. Choose Bath and Body Label Printing that Makes Items Gift-Ready
While some people may already be browsing or at least thinking about what they plan to get the special mothers in their lives this year, a major portion of gift givers don’t actually buy presents until days before Mother’s Day. In fact, more than half of shoppers don’t purchase gifts before May 1. Three in 10 do so one week ahead of the holiday, and 18 percent buy presents 48 hours before. That means gift-givers don’t have a lot of time to wrap their purchases, and even if they do, the cost of wrapping paper and gift bags can be extremely troublesome for many consumers.

When shoppers come across items that are already gift-ready, they’re likely to be drawn to the brand immediately. As you design your custom packaging, consider including the phrase “Happy Mother’s Day” and incorporating other elements of the holiday.

Attractive, Customized Labels Can Really Be Made On A Budget

Labels Offer Marketing Opportunity For Cash-Strapped Companies

custom labels

Manufacturers can save money using high-quality custom labels

How many times have you seen products whose customized labels you imagine to be unattainable? Perhaps it is because the materials are high-quality and luxurious, both in design and appeal, or maybe it’s because a limited packaging and marketing budget has left you scrimping and saving.

Whatever the reason – or excuse – you can take those ideas and toss them right out the window. Even the smallest manufacturing companies can market their products with high-quality, personalized labels, no matter their budget.

Digital Label Printing Advances Make Customized Labels Attainable

Many manufacturers think their product production is too small to warrant an order of customized labels, but that is no longer the case. In the past, it was necessary for businesses and producers to order bulk shipments and spend a large portion of their budget on more labels than they might even use.

Times have changed, much to the benefit of small businesses and manufacturers that want to use attractive, unique labels on their products. After all, labels are what the targeted audience and prospective consumers see when they consider buying an item or product. Thanks to digital printing taking the place of mechanical flexographic printing presses – ultimately making required printing plates and necessary machine preparation a thing of the past – the traditionally long process doesn’t actually take that much time at all.

But the most important thing for budget-minded manufacturers with limited resources is the fact that digital label printing can save plenty of green compared to machine-based methods of yesteryear. This can be attributed to the fact that it’s not necessary to create those costly custom plates (which could cost $120 per design), nor is it required to order in bulk just to get the best price possible. Only need 10,000 labels instead of 25,000? Not a problem with digital printing technology.

3 Ways Customized Labels Are Even More Budget-Friendly

Although order size, speed and flexibility are all important factors when designing and placing orders for your custom labels, cost remains king for most companies and manufacturers. However, taking the leap and creating custom products is more than just something to capture consumers’ attention – it’s a bold marketing move that can increase sales numbers and increase the current pool of customers.

Here are three reasons why custom labels are easier on the wallet than non-custom options:

1. Marketing Made Easy: With so many competitors trying to get people’s attention, marketers are doing everything they can to send the most eye-catching messages possible. But although many choose to focus on direct marketing strategies and social media campaigns, the physical product is often overlooked. Consider the label to be an element of a marketing plan – you don’t want something run-of-the-mill and forgettable, do you?

2. Remember Me?: In the same way products can be used as marketing tools, they can also be used as part of a larger campaign. By creating a custom, one-of-a-kind label that is designed similarly to the manufacturer’s current branding plan, customers may have an easier time associating things they’ve seen and heard to the physical product up on the shelf.

3. More People, More Sales: Once more customers make the connection – thanks to the high-quality custom label, of course – manufacturers may find that their audience and sales to increase. Not only is this a side-effect of marketing and label-making done right, it is also pretty beneficial to the company’s bottom line.

Hey Craft Distilleries, Have You Thought About Custom Labels?

With the resurgence of craft distilleries across the country, Lightning Labels has to take notice. Not only do we print wine and beer labels, but we can also make custom labels for whiskey, vodka, gin, rum, and brandy. The total number of craft distilleries is on the rise and we would love to take part in the branding and packaging of the next great American distilleries!

Lightning Labels loves to support local businesses and the growing number of craft distilleries makes us very intrigued. It’s fascinating that over 90 new distilleries have emerged between 2010 & 2011, according to Michael Kinstlick at Coppersea Distilling, LLC. The American distilling industry is truly making a comeback. Kinstlick also concluded that the “number of craft distilleries in the market will grow from about 250 to over 1000 over the next 10 years.” That’s pretty unbelievable if you ask me.

More Craft Distilleries, Means More Custom Beverage Labels!

Not only does this mean more essential taste tests, but more creative, original product labels! The growing market implies more competition and one way for distilleries to separate themselves from the rest is through their packaging and their custom beverage labels. Make smart, innovative labels that evoke a true artisanal drink experience. For expert advice on creating your custom labels, check out these 5 tips for designing full color labels!

How many of you have visited craft distilleries?  What did you enjoy about them? Do any distillery beverage labels jump out at you? If so, please share! I’ll make sure to showcase your favorite distillery labels on our Facebook page. I’m personally a big fan of these two labels for Booker’s and Basil Hayden’s.

Why Designing Your Own Custom Labels for Holidays is a Great Idea

Advantages of Ordering Custom Product Labels for Your Holiday Gifts

We’re getting closer and closer to the holiday season, and every year it feels like we begin gift shopping earlier and earlier. It’s hard to believe we’re nearing November and Black Friday is almost upon us. Why not avoid it all together this year and just order your own personalized product labels? You’re probably asking yourself why would I bother? And the answer is simple, because you would look like an awesome friend, relative, or spouse. Rather than going to the liquor store last minute to pick up a bottle of wine to gift, plan ahead! You can design the perfect custom label for every occasion.

DIY: Design your own personalized product labels for the holidays!

Personalized product labels add a whole new touch of flair and joy to your holiday season. You can really personalize anything with labels from wine and beer to homemade candles and soap. Get your creative juices flowing because there are endless possibilities. Giving gifts with custom labels will make your present standout amongst everyone else’s, which makes you look like the amazing person you are.

Not only is designing your own holiday-themed labels fun, it’s also easy! Brainstorm text ideas like “Have a Lovely Holiday Season and a Merry Christmas” or “Spread the Holiday Joy and Have a Happy Hanukah” followed by a bespoke signature like “Cheers, the Smith Family” or “With Love, Jon.” Once you’ve decided upon the text, then you can consider using an image or a fun, festive graphic. Perhaps your kids can even draw something to use on your personalized product labels. Please take a look at our label artwork specifications if you’re interested in including an image.

Lots of beverage companies are beginning to offer customized labels for the holidays. For instance, Knob Creek lets fans “customize” their labels through their Facebook page. However, these labels are not that personal or meaningful, for they only allow you to write a few characters onto an already-designed black or beige label template. Knob Creek then mails you the personalized label for you to stick right on top of their bottle’s original label. In my opinion, why not go all out with your custom product labels? It’s much more impressive to design your own simple label using your own words than typing 3 words into a box to be printed. It’s a little more effort but Lightning Labels is here to help!

Like Knob Creek, just ask our label experts what kind of label to order if you want to stick it right on top of another label. Otherwise, neatly peel away the existing product label and replace with your brand new holiday-themed label! It’s so easy. If you have any other questions follow up with customer service or ask us on Facebook or tweet @LightningLabels!

Top 6 Custom Food Labels & What Their Colors Say About Them

6 Favorite Custom Food Label Stickers & Their Color Meanings

I can’t say it enough that Lightning Labels customers always make wonderful product labels! This week I’m particularly impressed by the custom food labels that I’ve come across digging around in our photo archives. I’ve selected six custom food labels that utilize color (or lack thereof) in noteworthy ways to brand their product.

Custom food label stickers are designed to attract their target customers, which is why color choice is key. Colors come with emotional baggage or, in other words, color meaning. For instance, blue evokes reliability, security, and or trustworthiness, whereas red suggests energy, passion, and or aggression. When designing your custom food labels, I beg you to take color choice into consideration. Colors bring to mind different feelings and emotions for lots of people and, depending on your branding tone, you will want to be well aware of color meaning.

Explaining the Top 6 Custom Food Labels Through Color

1. Bubba Rose Biscuit Company’s Dog Treats

Bubba Rose Biscuit Company's Custom Food Labels

The red is attention grabbing and exciting! It compliments the black text well.  And the beige is neutral and comfortable. This is a great example of a simple custom label with a slight pop of color working in its favor. Way to go Bubba Rose!

2. Culinary Crafts’ Pumpkin Bread and Chocolate Chili Pepper Artisan Cheese

Culinary Crafts Custom Food Labels

Once again the red is energetic and attention grabbing, while the purple suggests mystery and regality. The orange pumpkin really pops against the purple background, making the label fun and playful. The yellow text was also a great choice, creating a cheerful and friendly vibe.

3. The Letelier Food Company’s Strawberry Balsamic Jam and Blackberry Jam

The Letelier Food Company's Custom Food Labels

Adorable labels that contrast the elegant simplicity of black with a splash of pink or purple text. Purple can seem mysterious or regal, while the pink is soft and tender. However, both the purple and pink mimic the color of the jam that’s inside the jars.

4. Nuffins’ Gluten-Free Brownie Mix

Nuffins' Custom Food Labels

Nice job Nuffins! Black is classic and bold and white is crisp and clean. The white against the black is easy to read, and the use of beige and brown makes the packaging seem stable, secure and durable. This is another excellent example that uses neutral colors for a simple, classic design.

5. Pat O’s Pickles’ Super Cukes, FireCracker Dilly Darts, and Cool Dill Cukes

Pat O's Pickles Custom Food Labels

Lovin’ the use of light green and navy blue, with the pop of red on the hot pickles label. The red catches your attention and is energetic and exciting! While the blue and green are welcoming, refreshing and soothing together. Blue is also known to suggest reliability and security, which is a great association to have with a food product. Beautiful labels Pat O’s Pickles!

6. Sorelle Paradiso’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Sorelle Paradiso's Custom Food Labels

Sorelle Paradiso’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil labels take full advantage of white’s innocent, simple, clean quality and black’s classic, elegant quality. Black and white go perfectly together, working like a gem for this custom food label. Awesome work Paradise Sisters!
