Printing Health Information On Food and Nutraceutical Product Labels

Focus on Health Information Label Printing This March

Use health information label printing to promote nutritious choices.

Food and nutraceutical brands can take advantage of National Nutrition Month to utilize health information label printing to provide consumers with insight about healthy lifestyle choices; for instance, helping shoppers interpret nutrition labels. Initiated by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics back in 1973, the month-long event is intended to educate consumers on healthy food choices. For brands that make food, supplement or nutraceutical products, March is the ideal time to promote items than can be integrated for a more nutritious diet. Eating balanced meals doesn’t have to be a chore; with the wide variety of products on the market, it can be fun. Product labels are a great place to remind shoppers that healthy foods can taste great, too.

Use Health Information Stickers to Promote Nutritional Ingredients

Brands can use health information stickers to call attention to healthy diet choices and drive engagement with products. During March, companies can work on their own educational campaigns that are in line with those of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Provide information about what goes into a balanced diet using visuals that are easy to understand. Turning an image of a plate into a pie chart that breaks a meal down into fruits, vegetables, grains and proteins can provide a useful guideline for shoppers who are trying to learn better eating habits. Companies that create supplements can benefit from using sticker labels to highlight the most beneficial components of products. Do you make a beverage that has a high volume of vitamin B12? Include a message about the role this vitamin plays in overall wellness. Inform shoppers how they can make the most of supplement use.

Bring Awareness to Food Product Nutrition Information

Throughout the month, brands can draw attention to food product nutrition information on packaging. Another consideration during this month is the impending changes to nutrition labels, recently announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Before the new guidelines are made official, companies can demonstrate they are ahead of the curve by providing information about changes to come on food and nutraceutical labels. The new rules will likely downplay the importance of fat content and draw greater attention to the number of calories and the serving size, National Public Radio reported. The new elements of the label will be large and bold so they are more visible. Help your consumers adjust to the changes before they are implemented. Gain the trust of shoppers and they will keep returning to your products.

How to Make Labels Consumers Love

Learn How to Make Labels to Boost Branding Efforts

Learn how to make labels that stand out on store shelves.

Are you looking to rebrand your business? One of the most crucial aspects of branding is product appearance, and learning how to make labels that flaunt your goods and resonate with consumers is a must. No matter what you sell, unique, attractive and informative labels can lead shoppers to scope out your products and keep existing customers interested in what you offer. Whether you’re looking to reboot your brand for the upcoming holiday season or give it an upgrade for long-term marketing goals, Lightning Labels’ custom label printing can help you create packaging designs that give your products just what they need to stand out on store shelves and online.

3 Important Steps for Creating a Custom Label That Speaks to Consumers

There are few important things to keep in mind when designing a custom label that attracts new customers and keeps past ones hooked on your brand. By doing the right research on consumer preferences as well as label-making options, you can create a label that both commands consumers’ attention and doesn’t wear out your budget.

1. Before Label Printing Begins, Know What Customers Want: One of the best ways to determine how consumers will react to your product packaging is simply by asking them. Relying on focus groups often proves beneficial for brand marketers during the conception stages of a new product idea, whether you create your own water bottle labels, hot sauce, candles, soap or anything else. These research tools can also help marketing professionals gauge firsthand how consumers will react to custom label printing designs. Focus group questions can allow you to determine what elements of a design appeal to your target customer base and which should be revised.

For brands that may not have the budget or resources to enlist a focus group, consider asking employees outside of the marketing department what they think of custom label designs or try crowdsourcing through social media. Employees and fans may provide insight into consumer behaviors you may have otherwise overlooked.

2. Calculate Rebranding Costs Accurately: It’s important to keep an eye on how much each element of the rebranding process costs. Large price tags for certain marketing services can add up, leading brands to struggle to find a balance between cost and quality. Luckily, with Lightning Labels, you don’t have to worry about sacrificing the value of labeling solutions for a great price. Our printing process eliminates or minimizes fees and other costs associated with outdated printing methods, which allows you to receive high-quality labels at affordable rates.

3. Take Labels on a Test Drive Before Committing to a Design: Creating the perfect custom label can take time. After researching consumer preferences, labeling costs, and other factors that play into the label-making process, you want to ensure your design is perfect for your products. That’s why it’s a good idea to test labels before finalizing them. Lightning Labels offers competitive pricing on short-runs, which means you can order a small sample batch. Additionally, our quick turnaround allows businesses to modify their designs and receive updated labels within days.

In fact, according to the National Retail Federation, 16 percent of shoppers don’t begin buying presents until the first two weeks of December. Many don’t start shopping until the second half of the month.

December can be a very profitable time for businesses large and small, especially ones that capitalize on the marketing opportunity with decorative labels that make their items stand out. Once you have a holiday design in mind for your product packaging, Lightning Labels’ high-speed service can provide you professional, eye-catching labels to help your items sell this holiday season.

3 Tips for Creating Labels for Christmas Gifts

Lightning Labels is giving businesses the chance to make last-minute labels for Christmas gifts with fast label ordering and high-quality labeling solutions. To help you get started on your decorative labels, here are three design tips:

1. Use Impactful Language on Gift Labels: Depending on who you’re targeting, your product may perform best if your gift labels contain humorous language, like puns or plays on words. For more elegant products, craft product descriptions that are short and feature vivid language. Using different fonts and colors can also make the wording on your labels stand out. Lightning Labels’ printing technology ensures all text on your labels, large or small, is clear and legible. Additionally, our four-color process produces any range of colors, from bright and bold tones to pale and soft ones.

2. Don’t Skimp On Quality: When you order gift labels from Lightning Labels, you don’t have to sacrifice quality for speedy service and affordability. Our advanced printing and customizable labeling solutions ensure every aspect of your design is printed perfectly on distinctive label materials. No matter how quickly you’re creating labels, make sure they look professional and attractive.

3. Consider a Durable Label: When it comes to label materials, if you sell foods, beverages or body-care products, you may want to choose a material that is resistant to water and oil. Lightning Labels’ durable materials can protect your label design from leaks, spills, water condensation and more, ensuring gift labels maintain their holiday cheer wherever your product is used.

Label Printing Company, Lightning Labels, Offers Business Development Tips

Limited-Edition Labels Enhance the “Custom” in Custom Label Printing

Denver, CO, (December 4, 2012) – Lightning Labels, a custom label and sticker printing leader, encourages manufacturers to take advantage of digital label printing technology and incorporate unique, limited-edition labels and packaging this holiday season. To assist customers and manufacturers with holiday marketing, Lighting Labels releases business development tips that cover short-run, limited-edition labels, seasonal custom labels and product packaging.

“Just as technology has enabled major advances in such areas as social media, so is it positively impacting other forms of personalized business development,” says Business Development Manager AnneMarie Campbell. “The manufacturer can collect a certain number of orders, then create personalized product labels targeted to buyers. Instead of just trumpeting the product, it also heralds the customer – heightened perceived value, loyalty and goodwill – which is fitting this holiday season.”

People Flock To Short-Run, Limited-Edition Labels
Even if the product is left unchanged, printing an updated or special-edition label design – made easy with advancements of digital label printing techniques – can attract more customers to the product. Lightning Labels’ business development tips apply to targeting a new audience or marketing toward an entirely new set of potential customers. This creates an opportunity to test new label design and copy without the risk and pressure of harming the product’s already-positive image.

If the limited-edition run is overwhelmingly successful, Lighting Labels recommends doing more special-edition promotions and/or integrating some related tactics into their everyday labels and product marketing strategies.

What Limited-Edition Labels And Products Truly Mean
Special-edition custom labels haven’t always been affixed to products; in fact, the trend didn’t come into full effect until the late 1990s, when it was used as a marketing ploy. Companies utilizing this strategy were quick to discover that not only did demand for the so-called “limited” products increase, but people were willing to pay more money for products labeled as “limited” or “special.”

What started as a marketing plan for higher-end manufacturers and companies is now utilized across the globe by companies. During the holidays, though, more special-edition products seem to line the shelves, from collector tins to themed labels and packaging. Millions of people have made it their hobby to collect as many of these products annually as possible.

How Seasonal Labels And Packaging Affect Consumers
People historically understood that the holidays were fast-approaching by changes in weather, but the prevalence of seasonal custom labels has changed consumers’ holiday associations. Rather than determining the true start of autumn by falling leaves, people rush to devour limited-edition pumpkin spice delicacies and harvest-colored custom labels; winter’s arrival is welcomed by companies’ use of holiday-themed labels and packaging.

The low cost of digital label printing makes limited editions an attainable marketing and promotional plan that can be used for various events and seasons throughout the year. Although it’s not limited to the holiday season, it can be a good time to begin and test the strategy. Low custom labels, label printing, label printing companylabel printing costs and affordable prices of smaller sample batches from Lightning Labels give manufacturers the option to try this tactic on a few products or orders at a time.

How to Market Custom Labels and Products Seasonally
Lightning Labels’ industry advisors note that limited-edition custom labels not only look festive and welcoming, but they can be a gateway into creating an entire themed marketing campaign. Coffee drinkers around the world rejoiced when Starbucks announced via social media that its special-edition red cups were available once again, and manufacturers can use similar strategies.

Promote cheery, special-edition custom labels on your Facebook and Twitter accounts, then take advantage of multichannel marketing by posting pictures of the labels and packaging on Instagram and Pinterest, then tie everything together with a related #hashtag. Consider adding holiday-themed hashtags and QR codes to the limited-edition packaging that people can access once they see or purchase the collectable product.

Product Labels are More Important than TV

TV Advertising in the 1960'sI am a big fan of the hit TV series Mad Men. What intrigues me most about the show is the window it provides into the advertising world of Madison Avenue in the 1960′s. Then it was relatively easy to reach the masses with an advertising message. A print campaign (in newspapers and magazines) combined with some TV ads would ensure your product could be introduced to most Americans.

Every day, we are getting further removed from that world. Last week, Richard Shear on his Package Unseen blog shared the dramatic impact this shift has had. Citing a new Nielson/Bases study that was reported in Ad Age, Shear discusses the awareness shift from TV to the retail store for new product information. In a survey conducted across six major industrialized countries (including the U.S.) the retail store beat TV as an awareness driver for new products by a 50% to 36% margin.

What does this all mean? It means that your product packaging is actually becoming more important. I believe this trend will continue upwards. We have such a fractured media environment these days, with people spending less time watching TV, reading newspapers and magazines and listening to the radio, that it is difficult to get the message out about a new product. Consequently, consumers are spending more time in the retail store reading labels and learning about the products.

So now, more than ever, you need high impact packaging. Your product label is likely the single most important advertising message you will ever create. If you are trying to place your product in retail stores and you are still printing your product labels on your own cheap inkjet printer it is time for a rethink. With digital label printing, high quality product labels are within the reach of even very small companies.

The advertising executives on Mad Men would simply not recognize the media world of today. But they would appreciate the importance of product packaging. It was important in the 1960′s and it is even more important today. Don’t sell your product short. Make high quality product labels and packaging a priority. Your future business success may depend on it.

No One Cares About Digital Label Printing

wine labels

This may sound like blasphemy from a person who been preaching the gospel of digital label printing for more than eight years now. But the bottom line is the only people who really care about how labels are printed are the people printing the labels. Customers really don’t care; they just want high quality and inexpensive labels.

This point was driven home to me when I was going through our web site analytics yesterday. Of all the people who find us online, less than 0.5% of these people are searching for “digital label printing.” That is such a tiny fraction of visitors that one could almost deem the term irrelevant to our customers and prospects.

It has been my experience that most people who search for label printing services online are really not that interested in printing. They have a product they want to sell and they know they need to get a label. They want samples and pricing, so they can have some idea of the print quality and know if the costs are within their budget. Whether these labels are printed on a brand new HP-Indigo WS4500 digital label press, a Mark Andy flexographic press, or a Gallus offset press is completely irrelevant to the vast majority of customers.

While I will continue to espouse the many benefits of digital label printing and the advantages it has over traditional printing, I also recognize that a large percentage of our customers and prospects simply will not care. Of course, we will continue to educate those people who are interested through our newsletters, social media outlets and this blog.

Label printers need to realize we are not really in the printing business. We are simply solving the product identification and branding challenges of our customers. The printing part is just a means to an end.

The World’s Biggest Label Printing Show

Logo_LabelExpoEurope

LabelExpo is the largest trade show for the label printing industry. Every September it alternates between Chicago and Brussels, this year was the European edition (which is far bigger than the US version) that ended a couple of days ago. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make it over to the show but I followed updates from Label & Narrow Web magazine, Converting Magazine and live on Twitter.

Fellow label industry blogger, Adrian Steele of Mercian Labels in the UK, has an excellent roundup of the show posted on his blog today. It sounds like it was a good show with several new developments in digital label printing but nothing that looks like it would threaten the dominance of the HP-Indigo technology. Although to be fair, as Adrian points out on his blog, the Xeikon 3300 that was released last year is an excellent competitor to the HP. None of the new would be competitors that launched at LabelExpo can match the quality of either machine.

Making Cents of Press Proofs

Piggy-bank-saving-money

If you are like most people — and especially if you are a business person — you appreciate any opportunity to save time and money. When placing a print order for the first time, requesting press proofs is one measure you can take to ensure you save as much of these precious commodities as possible.

Press Proofs are …

  • Printed on the same equipment and material used in the final press run.
  • The ONLY type of proof that allows you to see the true color of the final product. Because most inks are somewhat transparent, their final color is affected by the color and opaqueness of the material they are printed on, as well as any applicable lamination.
  • Not usually needed when placing an identical re-order.
  • May not be beneficial if placing a re-order involving a minor change from the original order.

Press Proofs are not …

  • Simulated proofs. Any proof not produced on the actual press your print job will run on is a simulated proof, because this type of proof can only simulate what your final product will look like. A press proof, on the other hand, is in fact the final product.
  • Pre-press proofs.
  • Inkjet or laser printed proofs.
  • Velox proofs.
  • Epson color proofs.
  • Matchprints.
  • Digital proofs such as pdfs.

How Press Proofs Can Keep Your Sanity Intact & Your Money in the Bank

Because press proofs are the only way to see what your final product will look like when placing an order for the first time, they have the potential to save you added expenses, as well as needless headaches. If you do not request press proofs when ordering new labels or designs, you run the risk of purchasing an entire order that may not turn out exactly as you expected. When this happens, you either have to live with a product that is below your standards — and in some cases completely unacceptable — or place the order all over again. And you know what that means: More time. More money.

Here at Lightning Labels, we strongly encourage new customers placing an order for the first time to request a set of press proofs. This is especially important when using unusual materials (such as clear labels) that can produce unexpected results when applied to colored products. Unlike any other label printer we know of, we even offer the first set of proofs for free with every new order. That’s right, I said free. (Other printers typically charge from $75 to $150 per set.) Yes, we do require the customer to pay for the shipping and incur a minor delay while the proofs are printed and shipped; however, we believe these minor investments are well worth it.

So if you are placing a label order for the first time, you might want to consider requesting a set of press proofs. Knowing exactly what to expect when your final order arrives will give you peace of mind, and might just end up saving you time and money as well.
