Hi Steve,

Thanks so much for your kind words. I try to make my posts as interesting as possible. Everything you point out about Lightning Labels is true, and we're proud to produce the highest quality digital labels in the industry!

While we sometimes point our readers back to our main website, the primary purpose of our blog is to educate and inform our readers on issues related to label and packaging design in general, and we do this in a variety of formats--like this post!

Thanks so much for your input and for being a member of our blog community!

Jessica,

I found your post to be both interesting and well-reasoned, but I respectfully suggest you missed the critical point completely. That is, Lightning Labels is a DIGITAL label company, and this means they can offer customers full access to almost unlimited color choices at no extra cost. Conversely, label companies using traditional processes (which is still by far the bulk of the industry) charge substantial extra fees for each additional color to cover the costs of plates, not to mention that their processes force larger quantities on customers as well.

Hence, your well-presented analysis failed to point out the substantial benefits that Lightning Labels brings to the table in this very discussion, i.e. complete color freedom and more affordable runs. That omission seems to reduce the post from a potential selling document (and what else is marketing for?) to one of mere social commentary - at least to this observer.

All that is said is very important. There has to be total rethinking on designing of all the Containers including the cartons, labels, PIS, and medication guides. Rightly said, the font size should increase.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod's. It works well, but isn't as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that's not an issue, but if you're planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod's larger screen and better browser may be important.
